Paris Saint-Germain produced a sensational attacking masterclass to defeat Bayern Munich 5-4 in a breathtaking UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg at Parc des Princes on Tuesday night (28 April 2026). In one of the most entertaining European ties in recent memory, the French champions edged a nine-goal thriller that left both sets of fans breathless and set up a mouth-watering second leg in Munich.

The match was end-to-end from the first whistle, with both teams trading blows in a display of “cocaine football” that showcased the very best of attacking play in the competition.

Luis Díaz made it a one-goal game with a composed finish from the centre of the box, assisted by Harry Kane. The Colombian winger has now scored in four consecutive Champions League matches.

The remainder of the match saw Bayern push hard for an equaliser, but PSG’s defence held firm enough to protect their narrow lead. Nuno Mendes was forced off with an injury late on, replaced by Lucas Hernández.

Tactical Analysis & Key Performances

PSG’s attack was electric. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (2 goals) and Ousmane Dembélé (2 goals, 1 assist) were the standout performers, combining pace, skill and clinical finishing. João Neves added steel in midfield and contributed a crucial header, while the full-backs (especially Hakimi) provided constant width and overlapping runs.

Bayern, under Vincent Kompany, showed incredible resilience by fighting back from 5-2 down. Harry Kane (1 goal, 1 assist) was his usual reliable self, while Michael Olise and Luis Díaz offered dangerous counter-attacking threats. The visitors dominated possession slightly (57% to 43%) and created quality chances, but their defensive lapses — particularly in the second half — proved costly.

The match highlighted PSG’s clinical edge in front of goal and Bayern’s never-say-die spirit. With the score at 5-4, the tie remains very much alive heading into the second leg at the Allianz Arena on 6 May 2026.

This result gives PSG a slender advantage and the psychological edge, but Bayern’s experience in European knockouts means nothing is decided yet. The return fixture promises to be another classic.
